Restylane, Perlane, and Juvederm are popular dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are used to create fuller lips and to fill creases or wrinkles in the skin. Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm are all the same chemical compound. The difference between the three products is the size of the molecule or the arrangement of the molecule. The substance itself is called hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body; therefore it is fully biocompatible with the body. Since this substance is natural, it is not a permanent solution to wrinkles or small lips. Normally the results of a treatment will last approximately 6 months before depletion. Hyaluronic acid attracts water molecules and allows these molecules to bind together, in turn, creating volume in the skin. The molecular arrangement of Perlane is larger than Restylane, which is why Perlane is better for creases such as nasolabial folds (crease from the nose to the side of the lip). Restylane is composed of smaller molecules making this popular filler for creating fuller lips. Juvederm has a combination of larger and smaller molecules.
Restylane
Restylane™ and Juvederm™ are popular dermal fillers for lip enhancement. These substances are natural products which dissolve over time. Most people shy away from lip injections due to fear of looking artificial or fake. The individuals who have not achieved a natural look may be attributed to having too much product in one area. It is important that a physician regulate the amount of product injected based on the available surrounding tissue. Often times, "less is more". Also, in order to achieve natural looking lips, minimal product should be injected in the center area of the upper lip. When all is said and done, achieving a natural look lies in the artistry and skill of the Physician. Make sure the Physician knows exactly the look you wish to achieve. Restylane™ and Juvederm™ can be stored for future touch ups if a patient does not require a full C.C.
