FAQ'S for Fraxel

Q: How does the Fraxel work?
A: The Fraxel laser treatment coagulates 20-25% of the skin with every treatment which forces the skin to renerate itself. This fractional technology allows us to treat deep scars, wrinkles and skin imperfections by penetrating alot deeper than traditional skin resurfacing treatments with little downtime. Fraxel is also one of the only systems available which is safe and effective for all skin types. Those with skin of colour may be advised to pre-treat the skin with a lightening agent 3 to 4 weeks prior to treatment.

Q: What type of laser is used for the Fraxel?
A: The wavelength used for the fraxel is 1550nm. The technology treats microscopic volumes of skin, leaving the surrounding area intact for fast healing.

Q: What will the skin look like immediately after treatment?
A:  Post treatment, erythema or redness is normally along with some slight swelling on the skin. The skin may feel very warm for a few hours post treatment. A cold compress may be applied to the skin to sooth the area immediately after treatment.

Q: Are the results permanent?
A:  Yes the results of a Fraxel are permanent and long lasting. In fact you will notice your skin continue to improve up to 6 months after a series of treatments.

Q: What can I expect post treatment?
A:  Post treatment you may notice redness and swelling. Over the next few days you may notice a bronzing on the skin which is the coagulated areas surfacing. Flaking or granular peeling is common post treatment.

Q: How many treatments are required?
A: The number of treatments required varies depending on the severity of the condition. Those with severe scarring or deep wrinkles may require 3 to 6 treatments. Treatment intervals are 6 weeks apart.

Q: What are the post care instructions?
A:  Post treatment, avoid the use of a hot tube or sauna and strenuous physical exercise for 2 weeks. Do not expose the treatment area to the sun or tanning bed 2-4 weeks post treatment. Use sun block post treatment. Discontinue use of aspirin or any blood thinners for approximately 1 week pre and post treatment as well.

Q: When will I start noticing results?
A: Results will be visible after every treatment. Since the treatment deals with collagen building and re-modelling, it does take time to see the full benefit of a single treatment. Clients with severe scarring or deep wrinkles usually start to notice results after their second treatment.
