FAQ’s for Photorejuvenation

Q: What is Photorejuvenation?
A: Photorejuvenation is a process in which light is used to rejuvenate and regenerate the skin. The intense pulsed light is absorbed by pigmentation and dilated capillaries in the treatment area. A series of treatments is used to correct hyperpigmentation, sun damaged skin, rosacea, uneven complexions, dull skins, mild acne scars, corrects dark circles around the eyes, and reduces fine lines.

Q: What does photorejuvenation feel like?
A: When the light is delivered to it’s target, you will experience a mild pinch or sting.

Q: How long does the treatment take?
A: The treatment takes approximately 30-45 minutes.

Q: How many treatments are required for photorejuvenation?
A: Although each individual case varies, most individuals require anywhere from 1 to 5 treatments. The number of treatments will depend on the severity of the condition treated and whether or not maintenance is required. This can be best determined through a consultation.

Q: What should I avoid after the treatment?
A: Sun exposure and tanning beds should be avoided post treatment, the use of mechanical exfoliants or harsh products such as retinol creams or glycolic acid creams, and excessive heat such as sauna or hot tubes immediately after treatment.

Q: What will my skin look like immediately after a treatment?
A: The skin may have a pink/red appearance (erythema) post treatment for 24-48 hours. Sun spots or hyperpigmentation may appear to be darker. This darkness is the hyperpigmentation or sun damage surfacing. Overall the skin may look and feel tight.

Q: Is photorejuvenation effective for darker skins or black skins?
A: No, photorejuvenation is not suitable for darker skin types since one of the primary targets is melanin. Individuals with darker skins types should consider chemical peels, microdermabrasion and laser genesis for improving skin texture and complexion.
